JOB SUMMARY:

Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of more than 200 employees working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.
The iDeas Lab, the award-winning creative and digital production department at CSIS, seeks a highly motivated and creative candidate for a full-time, 6-month design internship in a dynamic and fast-paced environment beginning in March 2022 (ending September 2022). This is a paid internship.
The iDeas Lab enhances CSIS's policy research and analysis with the latest in web products, design, video, and audio. You can see some of our work at ideaslab.csis.org. The iDeas Lab is a creative environment made up of three major sub-teams-video/audio production, web development, and design. We are a highly collaborative team, and many of us use our skills and passion in many different creative arenas.
The successful candidate will work closely with our design team on print, web, and graphics projects covering a spectrum of CSIS issue areas. We are looking for a creative, energetic, self-starter who has a strong desire to experience the many different facets and phases of design and digital media production. Working closely with our experienced and talented team, interns are involved in the entire design process from concept to final products. The internship is structured to provide aspiring professionals with practical experience and hard-skill building.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
* Assist the design team on a spectrum of design projects, including print/digital publications, graphics, data visualizations, branded templates, brochures, logos, email banners, event materials, newsletters, satellite imagery markups, and other CSIS marketing materials.
* Research and compile assets for design, multimedia, and digital projects, including photo research.
* Support design and publications team, other iDeas Lab creative staff, and External Relations outreach team as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
* B.A./B.S. in relevant field (or rising senior) or relevant work or internship experience
* Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite and specifically solid experience with InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
* Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including operating in a fast-paced environment and managing competing priorities
* Strong attention to detail, initiative, and follow-through skills
* Interest in global affairs and public policy a plus
* Experience with HTML, CSS, and other web tools/languages is a plus
* Eligible to work in the United States
