POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Director of Product Development will act as a key leader connecting the design, product development, and production stages with internal and external counterparts. They will play a key role in all new product ventures and special collaboration projects from product inception, product development, and product creation. The Director of Product Development will bring a high degree of creativity, technical expertise, depth of product knowledge across categories, and a framework for creating new special products to promote the storytelling aspects of the brand. In partnership with the SVP New Product Ventures, Merchandising, and Design they will create a collaboration and product creation strategy and capability that delivers new and innovative products.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE JOB: 

  • Partners with SVP New Product Ventures, Design, and Merch teams on overall product strategy in order to translate collaboration ideas into apparel and accessory capsules.
  • Leads material research and development of key inputs in development and product creation.
  • Works with the Design and Merchandising teams in the development of new shapes, correct fit, finishes, and techniques considering the costing.
  • Develops and maintains factory relations to make garments with quality and competitive prices to match the line plan and division margin goals.
  • Ensures an efficient and streamlined process for costing, merchandising, marketing operation, industrialization, and pre-start-up activities for production.
  • Helps to create and define short-term and long-term collaboration strategies for the brand globally, while being able to create product assortments and collections.
  • Drives and executes collaboration merchandising assortment strategy for all brand channels connected to financial goals.
  • Partners with SVP New Product Ventures and cross-functional partners on collaborations and special projects to drive energy around key growth categories.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Experience:  10-12 years of experience in Product Development, preferably within the

Apparel and Fashion industry      

        

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Design and/or Product Development

Skills: 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possesses high taste level
  • Ability to work cross-functionally as well as remain focused on priorities
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Flexibility to work long hours when necessary, high level of dedication
  • Strong collaboration and cross-functional partnership skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop

Internal:  Design, Merchandising, New Product Ventures, Supply, Go-To-Market, and Project

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Plays a vital role in managing Product Development budget for New Product Ventures/Collaborations in accordance with corporate guidelines.

         

DECISION MAKING: Oversight of tech pack and product creations including costing; must be able to work and make decisions with autonomy; requires elevated level of taste, professionalism, and responsibility due to working with high profile collaborators.

RESOURCEFULNESS/CREATIVITY:  Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines; brings a highly creative and innovative approach to building product collections, while working with collaborators and design.
