Best Buy has two openings for Experience Design (XD) Managers, within Loyalty and Support, as well as Internal Tools.
As an Experience Design (XD) Manager on the Product Experience Design team, you will work with a highly collaborative team of UX designers, writers, researchers, strategists, product managers, and engineers to create compelling human-centered experiences across digital and physical touchpoints. You will provide strategic thinking, create high-level deliverables for initiatives and provide direction for XD Designers in support of Best Buy’s strategic product roadmaps.
The Experience Design and Product teams work to build and foster customer relationships with Best Buy by optimizing the digital customer journey, prioritizing the customer, and helping them from discovery to purchase. The XD Manager role allows you to stay involved in creating deliverables while developing management skills under the mentorship of a Senior XD Manager. This is a great opportunity for an individual who wants to explore management while staying involved in the details of strategic design and problem-solving.
Core Responsibilities:
Manage and develop UX designers including setting clear goals, managing project loads, ensuring deadlines are met and setting up designers for success
Work with experience designers, experience writers, product managers, engineering leads, and business stakeholders to gain alignment on solutions and align customer and business needs.
Leverage customer research, site metrics and usability findings to back up assertions, make recommendations and drive actions
Use creative facilitation techniques and take the lead with your partners to understand the problem space and foster a shared vision of the future
Partner with other design leaders on experience solutions that cross-team boundaries to ensure a complete and holistic customer journey
Foster a culture of collaboration, feedback and continuous improvement.
Partner with customer research, analytics, consumer insights and A/B testing teams on methodology and approach for vetting and testing UX strategies
Basic Qualifications:
Current portfolio that demonstrates advanced knowledge and skill in experience design
2 or more years of experience as a Senior Experience Designer or 6 or more years in a XD-related role (e.g. Copywriter, Interaction Designer, Information Architect, Visual Designer, Product Designer etc.)
Experience coaching, mentoring or leading other XD team members (information architects, visual designers, interaction designers, copywriters)
Advanced knowledge of Experience Design principles and deliverables (i.g., human-centered design, designs, wireframes, prototypes, etc.)
Ability to present designs, build consensus and negotiate trade-offs effectively
Experience developing prototypes and leading workshops or jam sessions
History of creative problem-solving and issue resolution
Ability to work through complex design solutions and understand the technology behind those solutions
History of proactive communication, storytelling and interpersonal skills
History of balancing the agile work environment and iterative product development with maintaining a cohesive and holistic view of the overall customer journey
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human-Centered Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Information Architecture, Multimedia, Communication, Marketing, Journalism, Instructional Design, related field, or equivalent industry experience.
Experience working in Ecommerce experience or other large, multi-channel environment
Ability to seamlessly alternate between dealing with highly technical teams and non-technical business teams
Strong skills in organizational savvy, ability to handle multiple efforts, attention to detail, relationship-building, strong communication skills, and high accountability
Solid understanding of designing for Accessibility Standards WCAG / 508
