Reporting to the Wovens Senior Design Director, the Men’s Woven Design Manager is a strategic leader and hands on team member responsible for clearly directing and managing staff members in all aspects of the design and product development process for all Men’s Woven Shirts and Bottoms for both Wholesale and Company Store divisions.  Management responsibilities include mentoring, guiding, problem solving and developing direct reports through their evolution in the organization.

The Design Manager will define, interpret and drive the creative process based on the global direction  for Wholesale and the Range plan request on Europe LY takedown styles for the Company Store division. The Design Managers main responsibility in addition to all design and design execution aspects is to manage the cross functional relationship ensuring all challenges, asks, changes and needs are managed and executed in accordance with the current strategic direction and seasonal calendar. The Design manager will also be available to follow special capsule efforts specific to North America, as well as spearheading corporate initiatives applicable to the design team, i.e., onboarding of new systems like PLM 3D design and Visulon. Additional responsibilities include mentoring, guiding, problem solving and developing direct reports through through their evolution in the organization, processes, and partnerships with all cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Must exhibit a clear understanding of the Global Tommy Hilfiger Men's Brand esthetic with consumer expectation on trend, silhouette, and quality
  • Demonstrates understanding of vertical product development from the planning of the calendar to concept/range plan, development to delivery
  • Partners across Design and Product Development to collaborate and lead on fabric, print, trim, silhouette, and fit across multiple seasons and all stages of the development cycle
  • Lead the team motivating and mentoring in executing existing and all new company initiatives while implementing best practices
  • Lead the designers in the North America strategy where responsibility is operational design, executing re-engineered EU designs for the NA market in our Company Stores
  • Develop and promote strong relationships with internal and external services, vendors, and suppliers
  • Involved in research and analysis of upcoming fashion, market trends and competitive product offerings to understand the over-all market to identify opportunities and design newness relevant to our product
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of the Tommy customer through regular store visits and key business meetings
  • Encourage cross-functional team work and drive partnerships between design team and cross functional teams to develop products that are part of a cohesive, creative plan that demonstrates strategy and product purpose
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate direct reports; responsible for employee development and retention through performance assessment working in the spirit of succession planning
  • Prepare for potential areas of risk and develop alternative solutions to maintain deadline integrity while ensuring merchants maintain collection and product integrity
  • Embrace and express agility for strategic or development opportunities outside the regular day to day design leadership tasks

Qualifications:

  • College degree; Fashion degree, preferred
  • Minimum 10 years overall experience in the apparel industry with a Woven focus which must include minimum 5 years of experience managing a creative team and successfully driving the business
  • Leadership and business management skills
  • Design experience must include heavy woven fabric structure and wash knowledge
  • Proven presentation and negotiation/ product execution problem solving skills
  • Requires strong knowledge of sewing techniques, pattern construction, fitting, grading and costing
  • Must demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must understand garment development process end to end and lead execution
  • Ability to travel, if needed (current passport needed, if international travel is needed)
  • Excellent time management skills 
  • Must demonstrate the ability to make effective presentations of any design led efforts and then effectively communicate  the ideas
  • Strong creativity and ability to translate ideas into commercial products 
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Have a passion for innovation, technology and sustainability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Illustrator, Photoshop, PLM, Visulon
  • 3D design experience a plus
  • Must be flexible to adapt to changing priorities and process, calendar timelines and corporate strategies
