Mechanical Designer Jobs description

Before the manufacturing of a product starts, the product has to pass through the design stage. Mechanical component design is performed by a mechanical designer, CAD designer, CAD/CAM artist, senior designer, or 3D artist.

A mechanical designer works closely with other engineers, programmers, project managers, technicians, and other departments to optimize the designs of mechanical or electromechanical assemblies. A mechanical designer is also responsible for the conceptual development and design of new products, design modifications and drafting support for existing products, and providing technical documentation of models and related variables.

To obtain a mechanical designer job, one must possess a degree in mechanical engineering and an additional qualification or experience in design. Mechanical designers utilize tools like AutoCAD, IDEAS, CATIA, and Pro/E software. Some employers prefer to hire experienced designers. For example, those with experience working with pumps, processors, HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, gearboxes, mechanical assemblies, or manufacturing units may be given preference in hiring decisions.
