It could be any number of things. There are a lot of different design programs out there that individuals in design careers will need to become familiar with. If you can do that right now, then you're already a step ahead of everyone else, and have access to many different graphic design jobs. If you cannot however, it's time to get a degree and work your way to the top. There are a lot of different schools out there that offer bachelor's degrees in multimedia. Some schools however might only offer an associate's degree, and because of this fact you will need to choose your education wisely. For the most part, these programs can be completed in two to three years.
Before you decide to go to any certain school for your design jobs, make sure that it is a school employer's respect. The last thing you want to do is attend a school that is not respected by the majority of employers. There are actually many employers that will not hire individuals that have graduated from certain schools. We're not going to name any of them, but rest assured, they do exist.
These design jobs are becoming complicated, but that makes it all the more rewarding. Learn what you can, keep your eyes and ears open. You will find a way into this industry sooner rather than later!

You're not applying for work at your local department store here, this is a major occupation and your resume needs to reflect that you know this. One thing that people tend to do in their resumes is keep it short.
Though keeping it short might seem detrimental to your job search, you are actually helping yourself here. No, you won't be able to include everything that you have done, or at least we hope not, but it will keep the employer interested. That being said, put down the most interesting things you have done recently within reason.
If you are an older applicant, only go with the most recent accomplishments, as you don't want to bring attention to your age by showing them things you did twenty years ago. In addition to that, make sure that you center your text. Centering will show that you have a dedication to neatness, which is something that design jobs call for.
Having a decent cover letter is also a must, and it needs to draw the attention of the potential employer. Without a great cover letter, explaining who you are and what type of person you are, the employer might just pass over it without a second thought.
